(NST) GEORGE TOWN: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police have reclassified missing deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais’ case as abduction after new lead resurfaced.
The case is now investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code.
“We are still investigating the new lead and we have every reason to believe he has been abducted. “All I can say it is not a missing person case,” he told reporters here.
Yesterday, police confirmed that the burnt car found in Hutan Melintang, Perak, on Sunday was of the same make and model as the one used by Morais.
However, further analysis was needed on the Proton Perdana to determine if it was the vehicle that was issued by the government for Morais’ use.
It was reported that Morais, who is the deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, was last seen leaving his Menara Duta apartment for work at 9am on Friday.
Police have been working round the clock to determine what had happened to him, including studying closed-circuit television camera recordings at toll plazas and checking on cases that he had prosecuted to find leads into his disappearance.
